MS Sirena officially closes the cruise season 2018/2019

The last ship of the 2018/2019 cruise season docked at the Port of Recife on Easter Sunday (21.04). The MS Sirena closed the period of cruise ships in the city, which began on November 20. During these five months 20 ships came to the Port of Recife 20 ships and and a total of 29,115 passengers, a number about 15% higher than the season 2017/2018. In order to receive the tourists in the Maritime Passenger Terminal, during the whole period, a great joint operation was set up with the State Secretary of Tourism, Empetur, City Hall, CTTU, Fire Brigade, Military Police, among other agencies and institutions.

The ship MS Sirena docked at 7 o'clock in the morning on the pier 2 of the Recife anchorage, with about 600 passengers and 400 crew members on board. The ship of Marshall Islands flag has 181m in length. It came from Rio de Janeiro and after the stop in Recife goes to Natal. The cruise ship was scheduled for 23.04, but due to the cancellation of two stopovers it anticipated the arrival. The Sirena stayed in Recife for about 12h and in that time the passengers were able to make visits in various attractions of the capital of Pernambuco and surrounding cities. Around 5:00 pm, the cruise unloaded from the Port of Recife.

According to research conducted by Empetur, between November 2018 and January of this year, the majority of tourists arriving in Recife on cruises are foreign (79.90%). Among the visitors, women represent 61.85% and tourists over 65 correspond to 45.78%. Many of these passengers are visiting the capital of Pernambuco for the first time (63.05%) and the first impression seems to be very good, as 86.45% recommend the city to friends.

In general, the time the traveler stays in the capital is 4 hours, spending an average of R $ 238.15 and 71.49% expressing a desire to return to Recife. Among the items considered of greater prominence, the tourists emphasized the architecture, the hospitality, the beaches and the gastronomy.
